HOW PROSE & CONS CAME ABOUTHOW TO PLAYWhat People Are Saying:“It’s simple, elegant bookish fun.” — Ron Charles
"It is a clever, portable game that turns literary knowledge into an accessible, repeatable party experience fopr readers and nonreaders alike.” “It’s a clean family game that has a very simple concept and provided us with interesting conversations so I think it’s worth every penny and then some. Eight thumbs up from my family.” “We are a family of book nerds so when I saw this game I jumped at the chance to get it. I am so glad I did!” “SO much fun!!!” “This game is great for English classes and book clubs, but it is really fun for just about everyone even if they aren’t big readers. If you are looking for a new party game that is fun and interactive, but also simple, look no further. This is also an excellent gift for college students, teachers, and anyone who loves to read. Highly recommend.” "Prose & Cons is a very fun game to play for a girl’s night!" “The task of assigning a statement to an established literary character that may perfectly fit or the polar opposite of what we know creates the possibility for an interesting discussion and/or an amusing juxtaposition all of which make for an entertaining game. The game is educational but in a way that also expands thinking and offers an excuse to spend time with people we love.” “I’m SO happy with it…This game is brilliant -- and fun.” “From timeless classics to modern names, it really is a fun variety for all bookish folks.” “If you’ve ever sat around with fellow readers wishing there was a game that rewarded actually knowing your literature, Prose & Cons is going to feel like it was made for your living room… For books clubs, writers, English majors, or anyone who enjoys literary themed games, this is a fun addition to game night.” “A rousing good time! “Literally a fabulously fun game.” “Prose & Cons is what happens when literary criticism attends game night…It works because it understands literature well enough to lovingly mock it. It rewards wit, cultural awareness, and just enough literary familiarity to make everyone feel either brilliantly clever or delightfully attacked… A charming game for readers, book clubs, teachers, and anyone who has ever wanted to describe Hamlet using modern internet slang.” “Just plain fun!” “This game is such a fun idea! It manages to feel both clever and playful at the same time, which seems challenging to pull off with anything remotely literary… The design is so charming, the gameplay is approachable, and it works well for both serious book people and chaotic friends who just want to yell strange sentence combinations at each other. Very entertaining little game and a great gift for readers. Highly, highly recommended!!” “The prompts are clever without feeling too complicated, and it gets people laughing pretty quickly.” “That was so much fun!” “We played through the entire deck. Marion gives it an 11/10.” “Prose & Cons takes characterization to a whole new level!” "We had a blast!” — S. May Stein, Librarian When Your Book Club Finally Admits It Wants to Party — E.R. Burgess, Boardgame Babylon
If you've ever sat around with fellow readers wishing there was a game that rewarded actually knowing your literature, Prose & Cons is going to feel like it was made for your living room. The premise is simple: match descriptor cards to iconic literary characters in ways that are both fitting and funny, and let the group decide who nailed it. Think Cards Against Humanity by way of an English degree, but one that the whole table can play without anyone needing a content warning. What makes it click is that the humor lands differently depending on how well you know the characters, so the bookworms at the table have a genuine edge without the game ever feeling exclusionary. You don't need to have read every title to get laughs, but you will leave wanting to. It's a party game with a little texture to it, which is a rare thing. Great for book clubs looking to loosen up, or any gathering where at least a few people have opinions about fictional characters. Highly recommended!” |
