AUTHOR STATEMENTI have always been drawn to disaster as a theme, exploring the unfortunate, the aesthetically bankrupt and the tragic. Where others see decisions whose outcomes have been inept, I see the opportunity for telling a new story.
My first book, Trigger Finger, explores the violence that undercuts otherwise ordinary activities and threatens to erupt at a moment’s notice. Camera shutters are pressed at just the wrong moment; guns are held by desperate people hellbent on revenge; children at summer camp live in fear of forest fires, and counselors tempt fate by lying down in the middle of the road. My second book, It’s Probably Nothing… examines the power of humor inherent in a cancer journey, based on my own experience. I have also had a role to play in the Supersaurs series of young adult adventure novels as co-writer and editor, working with my brother, Jay Burridge, to bring to life his vision of a version of history in which dinosaurs didn't die out ... and in which a certain character named Micki Myers, an intrepid photojournalist and pilot, can be found coming to the rescue! ( Many of the characters are named after friends and family — he was very cheeky with this one!) I engage in all sorts of writing — whatever genre, in whatever format.
